Special Event Descriptions
May 9th-10th (Friday & Saturday) Mitchel Bleier, internationally recognized yoga teacher, known for his immense knowledge on all yoga topics, especially asana, philosophy, therapeutics, and adjustments. He teaches with passion and offers a kind, generous, humorous, easy, and sophisticated approach. Mitchel's classes are an inspiring vinyasa flow incorporating clear alignment direction, deep breathing, and a playful narrative of Indian philosophy and myth. Mitchel integrates years of his studies and experiences into his classes. His yoga began with Jonny Kest, and he quickly deepened his study of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with Tim Miller and Richard Freeman. At 23, Mitchel lived in India studying asana with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sanskrit with teachers from the Sanskrit University in Mysore. Mitchel left India to study with John Friend and his newly formed Anusara Yoga®. He was one of two students with the privilege to travel with John as his apprentice and assistant for 3 years. In addition, Mitchel lived in Rochester, NY for 4 years studying closely with Douglas Brooks both at the University of Rochester and privately with him. For the last 7 years, Mitchel has traveled the world teaching workshops, trainings, and retreats. He has just completed filming 7 DVDs coming out in 2008.

Saturday May 10, 2:30-4:30 Yoga philosophy does not have to be boring or inaccessible. Considered in the context of the modern day yogin, but connected to its great history, Mitchel begins to explain the most elaborate and sophisticated of all the yogas - the Tantra. Saturday, May 17th, 3:00-5:30pm Relieve stress and anxiety naturally with Conscious Connected Breathing -- a technique that facilitates letting go of stress, anxiety and stored suppression, creating the possibility for freedom, profound relaxation, improved breathing and self-acceptance. The workshop includes a complete explanation of the process, one breathing session, and the processing of the experience conducted in a safe, private, and loving environment. Sunday, May 18th, 2:30-5:30pm Imagine looking into a mirror that reveals not your skin, but what is in your heart. In its purest form, this is what an altar is: a reflection of the landscape of divine energies at play within us. An altar can be a powerful yogic tool of remembrance, a channel for gratitude, and a cherished touchstone for practice. Through a combination of guided visualization, kirtan chanting, journal writing, and artplay, you will be invited to create your own unique altar, a mirror of your authentic self. We will celebrate the creation of our altars with a series of prayerful, creative sun salutations and sacred chants. Some basic art supplies will be provided. Please bring a journal and feel free to bring any special art supplies, cherished photos, images, and objects. Cost: $45 or Early Bird Special $40 if prepaid by May 14th.
Monday, May 19th, 8:15-10:00pm. Savor the spicy grooves & dreamy melodies of New Orleans' own Sean Johnson & The Wild Lotus Band who put a funky, mystic twist on kirtan, the mantric music of India. Sean, founder of Wild Lotus Yoga, & the band have been touring nationwide, receiving rave reviews for their soulful & evocative style of chant music. Tonight they'll be guiding ecstatic call and response chants and performing songs from their new album Calling The Spirits. Both these practices are a great counterpart to a more active vinyasa or power practice - in fact take one of the vigorous classes on Saturday or Sunday and then join us in the afternoon to: * Calm, clear and focus the mind. This special afternoon intensive will focus on awakening inner transformation through a combination of powerful practices. Sean will lead a yoga practice designed to open the belly and chest for deeper breathing, dissolve physical tension in the body, and calm the mind. Yoga will be followed by a group chanting experience accompanied by Indian instruments and drums to free the heart and energize the spirit.
